Jalapeño Cheddar Grits

This is our absolute favorite way to prepare our stoneground grits.

Recipe makes 6 servings.

1/4 cup minced onion

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1/2 stick of butter

4 ounces chopped jalapeño peppers, or roasted green chiles, diced

1 1/4 cup chicken broth

1/2 heavy cream

1/2 cup of milk

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup Heritage Virginia Stoneground Grits (Any color will do!)

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese


Melt the butter in a saucepan; add onion and stir until translucent.

Add the garlic and cook until golden.

Add the pepper and cook briefly.

Pour in the chicken broth, cream, and milk and bring to a simmer.

Whisk in the grits, salt, and pepper. Cover and return to a simmer being careful not to let it boil over. Simmer for about 30/45 minutes, stirring occasionally until the grits are soft.

The best part! Fold in the cheese and serve!
